Yisheng Mao (January 9, 1896 – November 12, 1989), with the courtesy name Tangchen, was born in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu. He was a Chinese structural engineer, bridge expert, and an academician of the Central Research Institute. Mao was a pioneer of modern Chinese bridge engineering, a trailblazer in railway technology, and one of the founders of soil mechanics in China. He was also a science popularizer. Mao served as the Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and as a member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth terms.
